Break through your limits
Objective
The objective of this activity is for you to become familiar with specific concepts that – as a professional – will help you to understand the context and difficulties of your students. They are: what is employability and its indicators; what is an employability diagnosis; what are limiting beliefs and what are intercultural competencies; and how can all of these limit or facilitate a person’s career.
Description
In point 5.1 you did an assessment of personal competencies. During this activity, you will try to understand students’ context, social and labour situation, observing their realities and problem areas. Identify the signs that confirm a situation of vulnerability and risk of exclusion from the job market, as well as the expectations and needs each person perceives.
Some individuals tend to blame others for their circumstances, becoming reactive, victims of work, their bosses, the company, partner, family, government, the country’s economic situation, identifying with specific cultural values… This habit of reactive thought is deeply rooted in our culture, which is why understanding the concept of intercultural competence is important, presenting diversity as an increasingly more important social value during group and individual work. However, if we do not do anything, nothing will change and unpleasant situations will remain, which in turn makes them once again view reality as a threat, keeping the vicious cycle turning. To create empowering beliefs that encourage and let students move forward and progress, first everything must be identified that could be conditioning their lives, preventing them from reaching their goals, causing emotions that can make them feel bad and blocking and preventing their growth.
