Lesson Plan 3: Study opportunity - Attending the educational measures
This lesson will focus on topics of additional education measures, their importance for further personal and professional development.
Lesson duration: 5 EU plus time for selected videos
Learning objectives:
- Gaining knowledge on migrants inclusion to the local school system
- Improving knowledge of the education system, further education and vocational education
- Gaining knowledge about the education recognition system
- Gaining knowledge about financial grants for education
- Raising motivation for further education
Summary of the tasks / actions
Task 1:
Discussion activity: The teacher can post some introductory questions to the topic of further education or recognition of qualifications: Have you already attended any education training except language course in a new hosting country? If yes, what kind of courses, related to the professional development or general education? Do you know any organisations providing trainings, courses in further education, including vocational trainings? What is a difference between your country further education and new hosting country?
Task 2:
Selection of sequences of videos where the topic of further education, vocational training or recognition of qualification is presented , the best option would be to select two different videos showing various scenarios in relation to the topic of further education or vocational training.

The learners watch the selected sequences, then they retell the story in a one minute paper. (the method of a one minute paper is shortly described in Module 2 Methodology of Casebook to support migrants’ integration – Course plan) .
Task 3:
The teacher asks the questions:
What is the current education background of the person e.g. Azzat?
Are any other people involved in the scenario?
What are the framework policies relating to the issue of vocational education and qualification?
How has the involved person (Azzat) acted to date? Did he attend some other courses? If yes, which ones? What kind of support does he receive or could he receive?
Are there any constraints of time or of place so far?
Which options does the person involved (Azzat) see?
Which main steps are needed and required? What would you suggest to the person (Azzat)?
Task 4:
After a discussion on the cases, the teacher presents an overview of the educational system in the hosting country focusing on vocational training, studying, adult education, transition school and vocational education, explaining where to find information, relevant source of information, institutions supporting migrants with information and guidance.
Task 5:
This task can be done as a home assignment or individual work, the learners should create their own plans for the future, to indicate the current situation in the context of education, explaining what they would like to achieve and how they can achieve it (might there be any obstacles on the way?)
